Prescribed Fire Awareness Week
Prescribed Fire Awareness week is February 11-17, 2013.
Prescribed Fire Awareness Week Activities include the following:
- A meadow restoration burn is planned on the campus of UNCG in Greensboro. This project is in support of the Biology Department and Facilities Maintenance efforts to convert an old golf course into a 1/2 acre meadow for research and aesthetics; Ecology students have come up with a restoration plan and the use of prescribed fire is part of the toolbox of the plan. The site is three blocks from downtown Greensboro.
- The Piedmont Land Conservancy will burn the old fields in the Autumn Creek preserve. This 75 acre burn is to promote early succesional wildlife habitat in the center of a 150 acre property in the town of Summerfield in northern Guilford County.

- The International Association of Wildland Fire (IAWF) is hosting its 4th Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, February 18-22, 2013, in partnership with the International Association for Fire Safety Science, Tomsk State University and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
