Monumental Effort Leads to Prescribed Fire Proclamation
The Steering Committee of the NC Prescribed Fire Council wants to recognize and sincerely thank Bob Mickler and Cynthia Van Der Wiele. Together these two chair the Regulatory/Policy and Environment sub-committee of the NC Prescribed Fire Council. Over time they have cultivated a positive working relationship with the Governor’s office on behalf of the Council. Bob and Cynthia’s thorough and tireless efforts culminated with the proclamation of North Carolina’s first ever Prescribed Fire Awareness Week February 7-13. This effort addressed the top two purposes for the Council: to promote public education about the benefits of prescribed fire and to advocate for the ability to use prescribed fire as a land management tool now and in the future.
